Basketball Recap: French Settlement Piles Up the Points Against Springfield

French Settlement won the last time they faced Springfield and things went their way on Thursday too. The French Settlement Lions simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Springfield Bulldogs 54-22. Given the Lions' advantage in MaxPreps' Louisiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 16th, while the Bulldogs are ranked 94th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

It was another big night for Stella Allison, who went 7 of 13 on her way to 18 points along with seven boards and six assists. Her morning made it three games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ava Acosta, who went 5 of 10 en route to 13 points.

Allison wasn't the only one working in the assists department: French Settlement was working as a unit and finished the game with 12 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Springfield only racked up three assists.

Springfield's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Nickaiya Martin, who posted eight points and three steals, and Kali O'Rourke, who had five points. Martin has been hot, having posted three or more steals the last six times she's played.

French Settlement has been performing well recently as they've won eight of their last ten matches, which provided a nice bump to their 13-5 record this season. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to three-point shooting accuracy: their three-point shooting accuracy was 23.8% in those games and 23.3% outside of them. As for Springfield, they moved to 10-5 with that defeat, which also ended their four-game winning streak.

French Settlement didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 54-47 victory against Sterlington on the 3rd. As for Springfield, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 51-40 win against Mamou on the 3rd.
