Baseball Recap: Proviso East Comes Up Short

Proviso East had lost ten straight on the road, but on Friday they dropped their record down to 3-17 to make it 11. They came up short against the Willowbrook Warriors, falling 13-0. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Warriors this season, with their most recent defeat being a 12-2 loss on Tuesday.

As for Willowbrook, the victory was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 18-6. The result was nothing new for the Warriors, who have now won ten matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

For Willowbrook's part, Julian Ayala looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.

On the hitting side, Jake Bonino and Tommy Whiting did most of the damage at the plate: Bonino went a perfect 1-for-1 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run, while Whiting went 1-for-2 with three runs and two RBI. Those two RBI gave Whiting a new career-high. Noah Martinez was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Proviso East will head out to challenge Proviso West at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Pirates are facing the Panthers at the right time seeing as the Panthers are stuck on a five-game losing streak. As for Willowbrook, they will venture away from home to face off against Berwyn/Cicero Morton at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
