Baseball Recap: Puckett Takes a Loss

Puckett fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Stringer on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Red Devils by a score of 7-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Wolves have suffered since March 27, 2024.

Eli Rankin put in work no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. What's more, he posted five strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March of 2024. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.

In other batting news, Wilkes Carter was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-3. Another player making a difference was Tim Axton, who scored a run and stole three bases while going 1-for-4.

Puckett's defeat dropped their record down to 12-3. As for Stringer, their victory ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 3-12.

Looking ahead, Puckett will take on St. Andrew's Episcopal at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Stringer, they will face off against Leake County at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. This will be Stringer's first chance to prove their worth in the conference.
