Basketball Recap: Mercy Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Jen Urlacher and Madisyn Grzebielski

Mercy lost against Platteview back in December of 2023 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Mercy Monarchs lost 61-37 to the Platteview Trojans. The Monarchs just can't catch a break and have now endured six defeats in a row dating back to last season.

Despite the loss, Mercy had strong showings from Madisyn Grzebielski, who posted nine points and five rebounds, and Jen Urlacher, who had six points and four steals.

Platteview's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Hadley Fahrenbruch led the charge by going 6 of 8 on her way to 18 points and eight rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Maddy Stukenholtz, who put up 18 points.

Mercy's defeat dropped their record down to 0-3. As for Platteview, they moved to 1-3 with that win, which also ended their four-game losing streak.

Mercy didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 69-18 victory against Mead on the 14th. Platteview will take on Beatrice in a holiday battle at on Tuesday. Platteview has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
