Basketball Game Preview: Wakeland Wolverines vs. Lone Star Rangers

Wakeland hasn't had much luck against Lone Star recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Wakeland Wolverines will be playing at home against the Lone Star Rangers at 6:00 p.m. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.

Last Friday, Wakeland was fully in charge, breezing past Creekview 67-38. The Wolverines have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won ten contests by 24 points or more this season.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Lone Star). They couldn't have asked for a better start to 2025 than the 84-0 blowout they got against Turner. Given the Rangers' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 202nd, while the Lions are ranked 1377th), the result on Friday wasn't entirely unexpected.

Lone Star's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-12. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.7 points per game. As for Wakeland, they are on a roll lately: they've won 15 of their last 18 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 20-5 record this season.

Wakeland didn't have too much breathing room in their game against Lone Star in their previous meeting back in January of 2024, but they still walked away with a 44-38 victory. Will Wakeland repeat their success, or does Lone Star have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
