The Tunkhannock Tigers will venture away from home to square off against the Mountain View Eagles at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Tunkhannock comes in still looking for their first win of the season.
Tunkhannock fell victim to Holy Redeemer and their airtight pitching crew on Thursday. They came up short against the Royals, falling 10-0.
For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Mountain View and Susquehanna meet (four straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Thursday. The Eagles put the hurt on the Sabers with a sharp 15-0 victory. That 15-run margin sets a new team best for the Eagles this season.
Jordan Jagger made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two hits in six consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. He has become a key player for Mountain View: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least one home run, but 3-5 otherwise.
In other batting news, Jesse Keating was excellent, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Corey Trichilo, who went 2-for-3 with four RBI and two doubles.
Mountain View always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .633. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Mountain View is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-6 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.2 runs on average over those games. As for Tunkhannock, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-11.
Tunkhannock's speedy runners might be the difference in Friday's game. The Tigers have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.7 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Mountain View, though, as they've been averaging only 1.3 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Tunkhannock continue to outrun the ball?
