Soccer Game Preview: Stonewall Jackson vs. Riverheads

The Stonewall Jackson Generals will head out on the road to face off against the Riverheads Gladiators at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Stonewall Jackson will be strutting in after a win while Riverheads will be coming in after a defeat.

Stonewall Jackson's defense heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They walked away with a 2-0 victory over Central Woodstock. The game was the first time Stonewall Jackson have beaten Central Woodstock on their pitch since March 31, 2023.

Meanwhile, Riverheads was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They lost 8-1 to Waynesboro. While losing is never fun, Riverheads can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia soccer rankings (they are ranked 273rd, while Waynesboro are ranked 92nd).

Stonewall Jackson's win bumped their record up to 9-2-1. As for Riverheads, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-11.

Stonewall Jackson took their victory against Riverheads in their previous meeting back in March by a conclusive 3-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Generals since the team won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
