The Cox Mill Chargers are taking a road trip to face off against the Butler Bulldogs at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Cox Mill is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.5 runs per game this season.
On Tuesday, everything went Cox Mill's way against West Cabarrus as Cox Mill made off with a 9-1 win. The victory continues a trend for the Chargers in their matchups with the Wolverines: they've now won nine in a row.
John Ingle tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 11 over six innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Cox Mill got a massive performance out of Trendyn Motley, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Tyler Hicks, who went 2-for-3 with four RBI, one run, and one double.
Cox Mill kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in April of 2024.
Meanwhile, Butler was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They came up short against East Mecklenburg, falling 8-1.
Bryce Davis was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one home run. That home run marked the first that he launched this season.
Cox Mill's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 4-2. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.3 runs on average over those games. As for Butler, they now have a losing record of 4-5.
Cox Mill beat Butler 10-5 in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for Cox Mill since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
