Untouchable pitching duo helps make Eagles first MaxPreps National Champion from the Lone Star State.

Texas Class 5A state champion Barbers Hill (Mt. Belvieu) holds the top spot in the final MaxPreps Top 25 high school softball rankings, becoming the first Lone Star State team to finish No. 1.

Barbers Hill's national championship resume includes 37 straight wins to finish the season, 33 shutouts and just 22 runs allowed in 44 games. Led by two of the nation's top pitchers in Samantha Landry (Louisiana signee) and Sophia Simpson (Texas), the Eagles beat Aledo 4-1 back on June 5 to capture the state title.

Three other Texas teams join Barbers Hill in the final MaxPreps Top 25 – Class 6A state champion Deer Park at No. 8, 6A runner-up Judson (Converse) at No. 19 and Class 5A regional finalist Lake Creek (Montgomery) at No. 22.

Finishing the season at No. 2, Florida Class 7A state champion Lakewood Ranch (Bradenton) was one of the country's top hitting teams. Coach T.J. Goelz's squad averaged over 10 runs per game and will be in the discussion for preseason No. 1 in 2022.

No. 3 Hewitt-Trussville (Trussville, Ala.) cranked out 63 home runs in 53 games, led by sophomore sensation Kenleigh Cahalan with 17.

In Mississippi, No. 4 Neshoba Central (Philadelphia) captured its eighth state title in a row and will carry a 48-game win streak into next season.

At No. 5 Marist (Chicago) went 38-1 en route to its third Class 4A state title since 2012. Boston College commit Abby Dunning piled up 338 strikeouts with a 0.26 ERA.
