Baseball Recap: Vicksburg Wins Going Away Against Crystal Springs

Vicksburg's game last Saturday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Tuesday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Crystal Springs Tigers a 13-0 shutout. That looming 13-0 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Gators yet this season.

Mickell Jones made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out eight over four innings pitched. Those eight strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 1-for-2.

In other batting news, Vicksburg let Peyton Calvin and Kaleb Doss run wild. Calvin went a perfect 3-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Doss scored two runs and stole three bases while going 1-for-2. What's more, Doss posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in February. The team also got some help courtesy of Nick Carson, who scored two runs and stole three bases.

The win snapped Vicksburg's losing streak at four games and leaves them with a 5-12 record. As for Crystal Springs, they are on a 12-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-8.

Coming up, Vicksburg will head out on the road to take on Clinton at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Vicksburg's pitchers better be ready for this one: Clinton has averaged an impressive 8.8 runs per game this season. We've got a battle between Tigers coming up.
