Football Recap: Saugus' Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Friday

Despite a phenomenal run in the regular season, Saugus couldn't carry that success into this playoff game. They took a 21-7 bruising from the Apple Valley Sun Devils on Friday. The matchup marked the Centurions' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Special teams was responsible for all of the team's points. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Landon Lattimore, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown.

Apple Valley's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Noah Hardeman, who rushed for 164 yards and one score. Those 164 rushing yards gave Hardeman a new career-high. Another receiver making a difference was Jaden Foster, who picked up 59 receiving yards and a pair of TDs.

Saugus moved to 10-3 with that loss, which also ended their six-game winning streak. As for Apple Valley, their victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-4.

Saugus does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Apple Valley, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Barstow at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Aztecs' defense has only allowed 13.2 points per game this season, so the Sun Devils' offense will have their work cut out for them.
