Basketball Game Preview: Centaurus Warriors vs. Erie Tigers

The Centaurus Warriors will head out on the road to challenge the Erie Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Centaurus is coming into the game on a three-game losing streak.

On Tuesday, Centaurus came up short against Mead and fell 51-41. While losing is never fun, the Warriors can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 139th, while the Mavericks are ranked 50th).

Centaurus' defeat came about despite a quality game from Sam Esposito, who went 5 for 9 en route to 12 points. Another player making a difference was Harry Lyle, who posted eight points and six boards.

Meanwhile, it may have taken overtime to finish the job, but Erie ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They came out on top against Longmont by a score of 58-51.

Erie's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-9. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.5 points over those games. As for Centaurus, their loss dropped their record down to 8-12.

Centaurus didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Erie when the teams last played back in November of 2023, but they still walked away with a 60-56 victory. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Erie's Lucas Lee, who put up 17 points along with five rebounds and three steals.
