Softball Recap: Brown County Comes Up Short

Brown County had lost four straight at home, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 2-11 to make it five. They lost 12-0 to the Pleasant Hill Wolves. Having soared to a lofty 16 runs in the game before, the Hornets' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

As for Pleasant Hill, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 8-2. Considering they have won five contests by more than ten runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

For Pleasant Hill's part, Ava Wombles was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 12 over six innings pitched. Wombles has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with four stolen bases and three runs. Those four stolen bases gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Makenna Winchell was incredible, going 1-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Ally Neitzel, who got on base in two of her four plate appearances with two RBI and one run.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Brown County will welcome Hamilton/Warsaw at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Pleasant Hill, they will be playing at home against Pittsfield at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
