Basketball Recap: Colusa Falls Despite Big Games from Emi Guzman and Jace Mackaben

Colusa was the 62-56 winner over Winters when they last played one another back in January, but their luck changed this time around. The Colusa RedHawks took a 43-32 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Winters Warriors on Friday.

Despite the defeat, Colusa had strong showings from Jace MacKaben, who posted six points in addition to 13 boards and four steals, and Emi Guzman, who put up six points and four steals. MacKaben is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in each of the last five games he's played.

Even though they lost, Colusa smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive rebounds in three consecutive games.

Winters was led to victory by Luke Felsen and Lane Brown. Felsen scored 17 points and seven steals, while Brown went 5-for-7 on his way to 10 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. The dominant performance also gave Brown a new career-high in shooting accuracy (71%). Miles Mariani was another key player, putting up no points and eight steals.

Colusa's loss dropped their record down to 10-16. As for Winters, their victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-10.

Colusa didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 41-39 win against Anderson on the 19th. As for Winters, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 67-60 victory against Oroville on the 18th.
