Football Recap: Lafayette Christian Academy Starts off Right with Win over Archbishop Rummel

Lafayette Christian Academy took care of business in their home opener (barely) on Friday. In a tight contest that could have gone either way, they made off with a 27-26 win over the Archbishop Rummel Raiders. This was payback for the Knights, who suffered a 42-35 loss the last time these two teams met.

Braylon Walker went supernova, rushing for 183 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 11.4 yards per carry, and also throwing for 139 yards and one TD. Those 183 rushing yards gave him a new career-high. Lafayette Christian Academy's leading receiver Brayden Allen was Walker's top target yet again, picking up 98 receiving yards and one score.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Lafayette Christian Academy was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 266 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 156 rushing yards in five consecutive games dating back to last season.

Looking ahead, Lafayette Christian Academy is headed away from home for the first time to challenge Carencro at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Archbishop Rummel, they will look to take advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they take on University Lab at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
