Baseball Game Preview: Cimarron-Memorial Spartans vs. Eldorado Firehawks

The Cimarron-Memorial Spartans will face off against the Eldorado Firehawks at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Cimarron-Memorial is looking for their season's first win.

On Tuesday, Cimarron-Memorial came up short against Doral Academy Red Rock and fell 10-6.

Joseph Piccio was huge no matter where he played even without the win. On the mound, he tossed three innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off one hit. Piccio was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3. Those runs were his first of the season.

In other pitching news, Cimarron-Memorial got a good showing from Jonathan Santacruz, who struck out six batters over four innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. Those six strikeouts gave Santacruz a new career-high.

Piccio wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Mares Kai, who went 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. That hit was Kai's first of the season.

Meanwhile, Eldorado had just enough and edged out Canyon Springs 3-1 on Monday. The victory continues a trend for the Firehawks in their matchups with the Pioneers: they've now won five in a row.

Cimarron-Memorial's loss dropped their record down to 0-4. As for Eldorado, they now have a winning record of 2-1.

Cimarron-Memorial took their win against Eldorado in their previous meeting back in March of 2019 by a conclusive 15-0. Will Cimarron-Memorial repeat their success, or does Eldorado have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
