Softball Recap: Putnam Comes Up Short

Putnam came into their game on Monday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They came up short against the Lyman Memorial Bulldogs, falling 20-8. The defeat continues a trend for the Clippers in their meetings with the Bulldogs: they've now lost five in a row.

Putnam saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Aubrey Paquette, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two doubles. Paquette has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times she's played. Alyssa Yanis also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.

Putnam now has a losing record of 7-8. As for Lyman Memorial, they are on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 12 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-6 record this season.

Putnam will challenge Killingly at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday. The Trailblazers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 6.71 runs per game on average), something the Clippers will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Lyman Memorial, they will square off against Parish Hill at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Pirates have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 13.46 runs per game on average), something the Bulldogs will no doubt try to take advantage of.
