5A Region II District 10 recap Oct. 23, 2012

The biggest upset of the week belonged to Plano East, who took down 61st ranked Plano East, 24-12. Robert Somborn threw for 223 yards and two touchdowns in the win.

Boyd extended the longest winning streak in 5A Region II District 10 this week by beating Plano, 15-14. The victory was the fifth in a row for the Broncos.

Bryan Driskell was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 145 yards on 24 carries as Boyd bested the Panthers. Curtis Ladd also contributed to the rushing game with 31 yards on the ground.

Fuentes was the best wideout in the league this week as the Lions bested Plano East. Fuentes racked up 11 receptions for 159 yards. Jonathon Shannon helped McKinney's passing attack out by catching four balls for 58 yards.

McKinney's Somborn and Fuentes have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading 5A Region II District 10 in both passing and receiving yards. Somborn has thrown for 1913 yards this season, while Fuentes has 51 catches for 763 yards. Don Drake's team's Driskell leads the league in rushing yards with 1265.

Going into this week's game against Plano West, Jeffrey Smith's team's Somborn needs 87 passing yards to surpass 2,000 on the season.

A big matchup in the league this week will be when the Broncos take on Allen. As it stands, Boyd is in fourth, while the Eagles are in first.

The Lions moved up to 207 from 273 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. McKinney was able to make move up by besting the Panthers 24-12.
