Baseball Recap: Monday's Win Is Paso Robles' Eighth in Last Nine Outings

Paso Robles barely beat Pioneer Valley the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Bearcats blew past the Panthers 16-6 on Monday. With that victory, the Bearcats brought their scoring average up to 6.2 runs per game.

CJ Mercado was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He pitched 3.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with two runs and one RBI. Those two runs gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Talen Freitas, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April. Marcus Garcia was another key player, going 3-for-5 with three RBI, two doubles, and one run.

Paso Robles was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .471. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Paso Robles is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-11 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.6 runs on average over those games. As for Pioneer Valley, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost eight of their last ten matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-15 record this season.
