Baseball Recap: Sweet Springs Drops Season-High Score on Leeton

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Sweet Springs). They were the clear victors by a 19-3 margin over the Leeton Bulldogs on Thursday. The result was nothing new for the Greyhounds, who have now won seven matches by seven runs or more so far this season.

Bryer Fowler made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over four innings while giving up three earned runs off only two hits (and only one walk). Those seven strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Gabe Benson, who went 3-for-4 with six stolen bases, five RBI, and one run. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jason Gonzalez, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with four stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.

Sweet Springs always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .750. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

With the win, Sweet Springs broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 10-12. As for Leeton, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-13.

Coming up, Sweet Springs will challenge Jamestown at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Leeton, they will square off against Cole Camp at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
