Basketball Game Preview: Lithonia Bulldogs vs. Southwest DeKalb Panthers

Lithonia hasn't had much luck against Southwest DeKalb recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Lithonia Bulldogs will welcome the Southwest DeKalb Panthers at 6:00 p.m. Lithonia is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 52.4 points per game this season.

Lithonia is headed into the matchup after thoroughly thrashing Druid Hills: they outscored them in every quarter. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Lithonia blew Druid Hills out of the water with a 71-16 final score. The Bulldogs have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven games by 26 points or more this season.

Lithonia found their leader in freshman Essence Grier, who went 12 for 18 on her way to 28 points and four steals. The contest was Grier's fifth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Myiah Cutler, who posted eight points and seven steals.

Meanwhile, after a string of six wins, Southwest DeKalb's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They took a 44-37 hit to the loss column at the hands of Northview.

Lithonia has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a nice bump to their 10-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.8 points per game. As for Southwest DeKalb, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-6.

Lithonia took a serious blow against Southwest DeKalb in their previous matchup back in January of 2022, falling 52-23. Can Lithonia avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
