Baseball Recap: Hazelwood Central Picks Up Seventh Straight Win at Home

There's no place like home for Hazelwood Central, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Monday. They put the hurt on the Hazelwood East Spartans with a sharp 16-1 win on Tuesday. The Hawks might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight matchups by seven runs or more this season.

Jace Dickson made a splash no matter where he played. He pitched three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. He is becoming a predictor of Hazelwood Central's success: when he allows at most one earned run the team is undefeated (and 1-4 when he doesn't). Dickson was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with three stolen bases, three RBI, and one run. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Julius Reed, who went 2-for-4 with four stolen bases, four runs, and one RBI. Those four runs gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Morgan Wilbret, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and three runs.

Hazelwood Central pushed their record up to 10-4 with the victory, which was their seventh straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.6 runs on average over those games. As for Hazelwood East, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost five of their last six contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-8-1 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Hazelwood Central will head out to take on McCluer North at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Hazelwood East, they will venture away from home to square off against McCluer at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday.
