Montville hasn't had much luck against Waterford recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Wolves will head out on the road to challenge the Lancers at 4:15 p.m. Both teams are coming into the contest red-hot, with Montville sitting on three straight victories and Waterford on eight.
Montville had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 12-run drubbing they dealt Norwich RVT on Wednesday. The Wolves blew past the Warriors 16-4. The result was nothing new for the Wolves, who have now won five games by seven runs or more so far this season.
Natalie Lutyen made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched four innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run.
In other batting news, Alanna Noonan was a standout: she got on base in four of her five plate appearances with three runs, two RBI, and one double. Another player making a difference was Maddie Daniels, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Montville always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .632. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Waterford never let their opponents score on Tuesday. They won by a run and slipped past Bacon Academy 1-0. Those one runs were actually the fewest the Lancers have put up all season, but given the result they're probably not too concerned.
Montville pushed their record up to 8-3 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for Waterford, their record is now 8-1.
Montville suffered a grim 13-0 defeat to Waterford in their previous matchup back in April of 2023. Can the Wolves avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
