Jefferson County extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 23 on Thursday, dropping them down to 0-10. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 13-12 heartbreaker at the hands of Malone. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against Malone this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 18-8 back in March.
Adolai Scott spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and nine unearned) runs on six hits and racked up seven Ks. She also set a new season-high mark in stolen bases with two.
At the plate, Faith Rigdon made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. Macaina Kyler also deserves some recognition as she got her first hits of the season.
As for Malone, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 7-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.7 runs over those games.
On Malone's side, Arielle Dickens made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out eight batters over 5.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off ten hits. Dickens has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with three RBI, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Hailey Josey, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last seven games she's played. Another player making a difference was Anoshua Wesley, who got on base in two of her five plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs.
Coming up, Jefferson County will face off against Aucilla Christian at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Malone has already played their next game (against Sneads), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
