Baseball Recap: Wayne County Takes a Loss

Wayne County extended their losing streak to ten on Saturday, dropping them down to 8-16. They lost 11-1 to the Purvis Tornadoes. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Tornadoes this season, with their most recent loss being a 2-1 defeat on Friday.

Wayne County saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Dallen Holifield, who went 1-for-3 with one home run. That home run was Holifield's first of the season.

As for Purvis, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 18-6. Considering they have won eight contests by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

On Purvis' side, Hudson Walker was a standout: he went a perfect 4-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Those four hits gave Walker a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Nash Teater, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Wayne County will challenge rival Stone at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Purvis is set to square off against their familiar foe East Central at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Tornadoes 3, the Hornets 4.1) so any runs scored will be well earned.
