Baseball Recap: Holton Comes Up Short

Holton extended their losing streak to four on Thursday, dropping them down to 7-11-1. They lost 13-5 to the Fremont Packers. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Red Devils of the 3-2 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2025.

Fisher Mirkle made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. That triple marked the first that he has hit this season.

As for Fremont, their win ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 9-12-1. They not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since March 30th (when they won 15-3).

On Fremont's side, Coltyn Zerlaut made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Zerlaut also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Fremont is 2-1 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 7-11-1 otherwise. Zerlaut was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.

In other batting news, Fremont got a massive performance out of Brayden Crosley, who got on base in all five of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. That's the most stolen bases Crosley has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Jack Vandenburg, who went 2-for-4 with five RBI, two doubles, and one run.

Coming up, Holton will take on St. Mary Cathedral at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Fremont, they will be taking part in a tournament against Newaygo at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
