Corona Centennial jumps up to No. 2 after clinching spot in California's Southern Section Division 1 championship game.

We have a new No. 1 team in the MaxPreps Top 25 high school football rankings. Grayson (Loganville, Ga.) takes over the top spot after improving to 12-0 with a 31-10 win over Colquitt County (Norman Park) in the second round of Georgia's AAAAAA state playoffs. The Rams have won 26 in a row since a loss in their 2024 opener.

Grayson is four wins away from becoming the first team in a decade to go back-to-back in Georgia's largest classification. The last team to do it was aforementioned Colquitt County in 2014 and 2015. The next obstacle will be a big one – Friday in the quarterfinals at No. 11 Carrollton

The host Trojans are also 12-0 and 26-1 over the last two years. The lone loss came against Grayson in last year's state championship game.

Out in California, the Southern Section playoffs continue to produce high drama. Centennial (Corona) moved up two spots to No. 2 in this week's rankings after becoming the first team to beat Mater Dei (Santa Ana) twice in the same season since 2013. Dominick Catalano connected with Keawe Browne for a 24-yard touchdown to take a 28-27 lead with 1:36 left. Miles Schirmer blocked a 46-yard field goal attempt as time expired to send the Huskies to their first Southern Section Division 1 championship game since 2015.

Centennial will face No. 6 Santa Margarita (Rancho Santa Margarita) on Friday at the Rose Bowl. The Eagles cruised to a 31-6 win over Orange Lutheran (Orange) in the other semifinal. Santa Margarita is playing in its first section championship game since 2011.

The winner of that game will face No. 15 De La Salle (Concord) in the Open Division state championship December 13. The Spartans won their 33rd straight North Coast section title with a 24-17 win over Pittsburg.

In Tennessee, David Gabriel-Georges put together one of the best performances of the season in a 56-35 win over two-time defending Division II-AAA state champ McCallie (Chattanooga). The five-star junior running back finished with 32 carries for 431 yards and seven touchdowns. The Red Raiders jumped up six spots to No. 17 and face an 11-0 Brentwood Academy (Brentwood, Tenn.) squad Dec. 4 in the title game.

DeMatha (Hyattsville, Md.) and Corner Canyon (Draper, Utah) were the only MaxPreps Top 25 teams to win a state title last week. The 13th-ranked Stags capped a perfect 11-0 season with a 20-13 win over Gonzaga (Washington, D.C.) in the WCAC championship.

Corner Canyon was the only new team to join the MaxPreps Top 25 this week after capturing its third consecutive 6A state title with a 35-20 win over Lone Peak (Highland, Utah). The Chargers will face No. 3 St. Frances Academy (Baltimore) on Dec. 10 in the Overtime Nationals championship.

No. 5 Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas, Nev.), No. 21 Cass Tech (Detroit, Mich.) and No. 23 Don Bosco Prep (Ramsey, N.J.) are all playing for a state title this week.
