Football Recap: Heritage Starts Season with Win on the Road

Heritage had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They blew past the Bellmont Braves 42-0 on Friday. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Patriots' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana football rankings (they are ranked 115th, while the Braves are ranked 267th).

Heritage got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Zeb Tigulis out in front who threw for 125 yards and three TDs, and also rushed for 35 yards. Lucas Weber was another key back, gaining 76 total yards and two touchdowns.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Heritage was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 228 rushing yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Bellmont only rushed for 89 rushing yards.

Heritage didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Sawyer Thiele and Beau Stoppenhaugen.

Coming up, Heritage will be playing at home against Delta at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Bellmont, they are headed away from home for the first time to face off against South Adams at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
