Basketball Recap: Benton Comes Up Short

Benton extended their losing streak to three on Monday, dropping them down to 4-13. They had to suffer through a 74-31 loss at the hands of the Belmont Braves. While losing is never fun, the Zephyrs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Wisconsin basketball rankings (they are ranked 417th, while the Braves are ranked 89th).

As for Belmont, the victory (which was their ninth in a row) raised their record to 14-1. They have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven contests by 24 points or more this season.

Belmont was led to victory by Thomas Freeman and Logan Kress. Freeman dropped a double-double with 13 points and 11 boards, while Kress shot 64% from the field on his way to 18 points and seven rebounds. Freeman is also on a roll when it comes to field goal percentage, as he's posted one of at least 45% in the last four games he's played. Another player making a difference was Chase Riechers, who went 5-for-6 to rack up 12 points.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Benton will take on Highland at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday. As for Belmont, they will be playing at home against Juda at 7:20 p.m. on Friday.
