Softball Game Preview: Ponce De Leon Pirates vs. Vernon Yellowjackets

The Ponce De Leon Pirates will head out to take on the Vernon Yellowjackets at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Vernon took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Ponce De Leon, who comes in off a win.

On Tuesday, Ponce De Leon earned an 8-4 win over Bethlehem.

Kiyann Alford was incredible, scoring two runs while going 4-for-4. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in doubles (two). Another player making a difference was Sloan Amalie, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

Meanwhile, Vernon duked it out with Cottondale. in a bug-themed battle on Monday. Vernon fell just short of Cottondale by a score of 7-5. The defeat continues a trend for the Yellowjackets in their meetings with the Hornets: they've now lost five in a row.

Lila Owens made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one triple and one run. That triple was her first of the season.

The victory got Ponce De Leon back to even at 1-1. As for Vernon, their loss dropped their record down to 1-3.

Ponce De Leon was able to grind out a solid win over Vernon in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, winning 16-11. Will Ponce De Leon repeat their success, or does Vernon have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
