Baseball Game Preview: Cheney Blackhawks vs. Mt. Spokane Wildcats

Cheney is 0-10 against Mt. Spokane since May of 2021 but things could change on Friday. The Blackhawks are taking a road trip to take on the Wildcats at 4:00 p.m.

On Thursday, Cheney didn't have quite enough to beat Mead and fell 5-4. That's two games in a row now that the Blackhawks have lost by just one run.

Jace Vega was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Brayden Martin, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Mt. Spokane, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They blew past University 16-1 on Thursday. The matchup marked the Wildcats' most dominant victory of the season so far.

Mt. Spokane's win was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 9-3. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.8 runs over those games. As for Cheney, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-7.

Cheney came up short against Mt. Spokane in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, falling 9-6. Can the Blackhawks avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
