Softball Recap: Smackover Extends Winning Streak to 12

Smackover entered their tilt with McGehee on Tuesday with 11 consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with 12. They blew past the Owls 8-2. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 10-4 back in March.

Ava Walker was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out nine over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with four RBI.

In other batting news, Emily Camacho was incredible, scoring four runs and stealing two bases while going 3-for-3. Camacho is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: she's snagged at least one every time she's taken the field this season. Another player making a difference was Taylor Darden, who scored a run and stole a base.

Smackover pushed their record up to 12-1 with the victory, which was their seventh straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for McGehee, their loss dropped their record down to 6-4.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Smackover will venture away from home to face off against Drew Central at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Buckaroos are facing the Pirates at the right time seeing as the Pirates are stuck on a six-game losing streak. As for McGehee, they are taking a road trip to square off against DeWitt at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Dragons' pitching crew has only allowed 1.9 runs per game this season, so the Owls' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
