Basketball Recap: West Grand's Loss Ends Nine-Game Winning Streak at Home

West Grand entered their match against Gilpin County on Tuesday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. The West Grand Mustangs fell 42-35 to the Gilpin County Eagles. If the Mustangs were looking for revenge after losing 56-41 to them when the teams met, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Several Mustangs players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Taylin Harthun, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and ten rebounds. Another player making a difference was Jocelyn Holmes, who went 5 of 11 en route to 11 points and seven boards.

Even though they lost, West Grand smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 15 consecutive games dating back to last season.

Gilpin County's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Faith Ramsey, who went 11 for 21 on her way to 22 points and three steals. Ramsey is crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least two every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Elise Vincent, who posted seven points in addition to seven steals and five rebounds.

West Grand's defeat ended a nine-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 12-2. As for Gilpin County, the win (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 8-2.

West Grand will square off against North Park at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. West Grand's defense has only allowed 23.4 points per game this season, so North Park's offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Gilpin County, they will face off against Heritage Christian at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Heritage Christian has been dominant on offense recently, having racked up an incredible 207 points over their last three contests.
