Baseball Game Preview: University Trojans vs. Laguna Beach Breakers

The University Trojans will venture away from home to face off against the Laguna Beach Breakers at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. University is coming into the contest on a six-game losing streak.

University fell victim to Laguna Hills and their airtight pitching crew on Monday. They took a 4-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Hawks. That's two games in a row now that the Trojans have lost by exactly four runs.

Micah Von Dem Bussche was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he tossed five innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances.

Meanwhile, Laguna Beach made easy work of Portola on Friday and carried off a 10-1 victory. The result was nothing new for the Breakers, who have now won eight matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

Jacob Wicker was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Wicker was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Dylan Yencho, who went 2-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Lincoln Adams, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Laguna Beach was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .414. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive games.

Laguna Beach's record is now 14-8. As for University, their loss dropped their record down to 6-13.

University suffered a grim 7-0 defeat to Laguna Beach in their previous meeting back in May of 2025. Can the Trojans avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
