Mater Dei Catholic is 7-2 against Sweetwater since March of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Crusaders will square off against the Red Devils at 3:30 p.m. This will be Mater Dei Catholic's first chance to prove their worth in the conference.

For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Mater Dei Catholic and Calexico meet (four straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Friday. The Crusaders fell just short of the Bulldogs by a score of 5-4. That's two games in a row now that the Crusaders have lost by just one run.

Kaij Ordaz made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with one home run. Joey Castillo also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.

Meanwhile, Sweetwater beat Crawford 7-3 on Friday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Red Devils.

Mater Dei Catholic's defeat was their sixth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 4-11. As for Sweetwater, their win bumped their record up to 7-5.

Mater Dei Catholic took their victory against Sweetwater when the teams last played back in June of 2021 by a conclusive 12-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Crusaders since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
