Ellet extended their losing streak to six on Friday, dropping their season record down to 9-11 in the process. They lost 8-1 to the Springfield Spartans. The Orangemen were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Spartans earlier this season, when they won 5-0.
Ellet got a good showing from Luke Harris, who pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. Furthermore, Harris didn't allow a single walk, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in April.
At the plate, Ellet saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Keaton McKeel, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.
As for Springfield, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-18. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 4 runs in those games.
On Springfield's side, Nathan Meyer was a major factor no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 14 over seven innings pitched. Those 14 strikeouts gave Meyer a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Springfield let Wyatt Bartholomew and Parker Kozy run wild. Bartholomew got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs and one RBI, while Kozy got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Those two runs gave Bartholomew a new career-high. Rylan Slusser also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
Coming up, Ellet will look to defend their home field on Saturday against Cuyahoga Falls at 11:00 a.m. As for Springfield, they are taking a road trip to take on Lake Center Christian at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Tiger's pitching crew has only allowed 2.4 runs per game this season, so the Spartans' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
