Baseball Recap: Make It Three in a Row for Masuk

It was a proper cat-fight when Masuk challenged Brookfield on Monday. The Panthers blew past the Bobcats 7-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win the Panthers have posted against the Bobcats since May 3, 2019.

Jacob Mondo tossed a big game, striking out eight batters over 5.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Masuk is undefeated when Mondo allows one or fewer earned runs, but 1-3 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Chris Welch was incredible, going 2-for-4 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Nico Convertito also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.

The victory was the third in a row for Masuk, bringing their record up to 4-3. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.7 runs on average over those games. As for Brookfield, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 5-1.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Masuk is set to challenge their familiar foe Stratford at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Brookfield will face off against rival Joel Barlow at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (the Bobcats have won seven straight at home dating back to last season, while the Falcons won four straight on the road), something that'll have to change.
