Basketball Recap: Talan Bruce's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Eastern Montgomery over Narrows

If Eastern Montgomery was feeling good fresh off their 61-30 takedown of Craig County last Monday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Eastern Montgomery Mustangs received a blow on Tuesday as they fell 60-43 to the Narrows Green Waves. The Mustangs were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Green Waves earlier this season, when they won 69-58.

Eastern Montgomery's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Talan Bruce, who posted five points in addition to six boards and four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Marshall Tate, who scored six points.

Even though they lost, Eastern Montgomery smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in three consecutive matches.

Narrows' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Carter Holmes led the charge by dropping a double-double with 17 points and ten rebounds. Holmes' evening made it six games in a row in which he has scored at least 15 points. Elijah Knoetze was another key player, dropping a double-double with 12 points and ten boards.

Eastern Montgomery's loss was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 13-9. As for Narrows, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-9 record this season.

Eastern Montgomery didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 49-30 win against Highland on the 21st. Narrows has also already played their next matchup (against Parry McCluer), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
