Soccer Preview: Sheffield vs. Memphis East
The Sheffield Knights will challenge the Memphis East Mustangs at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Sheffield comes in on nine and Memphis East on three.
On Thursday, Sheffield got the win against Memphis School of Excellence Winchester by a conclusive 4-1. Considering Sheffield have won seven matches by more than two goals this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Meanwhile, Memphis East gave up the first goal on Thursday, but they didn't let that get them down. They skirted past Southwind 2-1. Given Memphis East's advantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee soccer rankings (they are ranked 128th, while Southwind are ranked 275th) , the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
John Nunez and Devin Drinkwater scored both of Memphis East's goals, bringing their combined season tally to nine goals.
Sheffield pushed their record up to 9-0 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 28 goals over those four games. As for Memphis East, their win bumped their record up to 7-2-1.
