Softball Game Preview: Foothills Christian Knights vs. Santa Fe Christian Eagles

Foothills Christian is 0-6 against Santa Fe Christian since April of 2016 but things could change on Tuesday. The Knights will face off against the Eagles at 4:00 p.m.

On Monday, Foothills Christian came up short against Bishop's and fell 8-3.

Holly Vigil made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored a run while going 1-for-1. That run was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Kylie Mathistad, who scored a run while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

Meanwhile, Santa Fe Christian earned a 10-6 win over Liberty Charter on Wednesday. The Eagles haven't had any issues with the Lions recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.

Maya Tyszkiewicz and Maddie Binnie did most of the damage at the plate: Tyszkiewicz scored two runs and stole three bases while going 3-for-4, while Binnie scored a run and stole three bases while going 3-for-4. That's the most stolen bases Tyszkiewicz has posted since back in May of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Kayla Crecion, who went 1-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.

Santa Fe Christian kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

The win got Santa Fe Christian back to even at 5-5. As for Foothills Christian, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-5.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Foothills Christian has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.5 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Santa Fe Christian struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 10.2 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.

Foothills Christian might still be hurting after the 10-0 loss they got from Santa Fe Christian in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Can the Knights avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
