Softball Recap: Coronado Has No Trouble Against Basic

Coronado barely beat Basic the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Cougars never let the Wolves get on the board and left with a 14-0 win on Monday. That looming 14-0 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Cougars yet this season.

Aubrey Kallus made a splash while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. What's more, she posted two strikeouts, the most she's had since back in March. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Coronado got a massive performance out of Bailey Goldberg, who went 3-for-5 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Chase Magdaleno, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base.

Coronado was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .472. They are 6-2 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

The victory made it two in a row for Coronado and bumps their season record up to 9-7. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.0 runs over those games. As for Basic, their loss was their eighth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 0-15.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Coronado will face off against Doral Academy Red Rock at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Basic, they will challenge Palo Verde at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Wolves' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Panthers have averaged an impressive 9.1 runs per game this season.
