Baseball Recap: Coconino Takes a Loss

If Coconino was feeling good fresh off their 13-3 takedown of Mohave last Monday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Panthers fell just short of the Cactus Shadows Falcons by a score of 4-2 on Thursday. The Panthers haven't had much luck with the Falcons recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.

Ezra Merrell spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on six hits.

On the hitting side, Coconino saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jake Hanley, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base. Abiu Chairez was another, going 1-for-2 with two RBI.

Coconino's loss dropped their record down to 5-10-1. As for Cactus Shadows, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 16-1-1.

Looking ahead, Coconino will head out on the road to take on Mohave at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Panthers are facing the Thunderbirds at the right time seeing as the Thunderbirds are stuck on a seven-game losing streak. As for Cactus Shadows, they will host Coronado at 3:45 p.m. on Friday. The timing is sure in the Falcons' favor as the team sits on nine straight wins at home while the Dons have been banged up by six consecutive losses on the road.
