Basketball Recap: North Port Gets the Win

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Gateway Charter, North Port was happy to have turned things around on Thursday. They snuck past the North Fort Myers Red Knights with a 43-38 win.

North Port can attribute much of their success to Amandah Marcelus, who went 6 for 9 on her way to 17 points. Those 17 points gave Marcelus a new career-high. Gisele Novielli was another key player, putting up seven points.

Despite the defeat, North Fort Myers saw an underclassman step up: freshman Kelley Conley posted 11 points and five boards. Those 11 points set a new season-high mark for Conley. The team also got some help courtesy of Bianca Iten, who put up four points along with six rebounds and five steals.

North Port now has a winning record of 12-11. As for North Fort Myers, their loss dropped their record down to 18-4.

North Port will challenge Lehigh on Tuesday. North Port is facing Lehigh at the right time seeing as Lehigh is stuck on a four-game losing streak. North Fort Myers has already played their next matchup, a 49-29 victory against Dunbar on the 31st.
