Baseball Recap: Cheraw Makes It Nine in a Row at Home

There's no place like home for Cheraw, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Wednesday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the York Prep Patriots 7-5. The Braves haven't had any issues with the Patriots recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive victory against them.

Brayden Michael made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over five innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two RBI.

Michael wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Jackson Byrd, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2.

Cheraw's win was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 11-3. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.1 runs over those games. As for York Prep, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost seven of their last eight games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-9 record this season.

Cheraw will challenge Chesterfield at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Golden Rams will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something the Braves surely won't give up without a fight. As for York Prep, they will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Andrew Jackson at 6:30 p.m. on the 15th.
