Baseball Game Preview: Bryan Station Defenders vs. Tates Creek Commodores

The Bryan Station Defenders will take on the Tates Creek Commodores at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Bryan Station hasn't scored more than two runs for four games straight, a trend the team is eager to reverse.

Having struggled with four losses in a row, Bryan Station turned things around against Lafayette on Thursday. They never let the Generals get on the board and left with a 1-0 win. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Defenders have posted against the Generals since May 15, 2017.

Haynes Ratliff was excellent, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI. That double was his first of the season.

Meanwhile, Tates Creek made easy work of Breathitt County on Friday and carried off a 6-0 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Commodores.

Carter Gilliam looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (five).

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Cooper Jackson, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run and two runs. Tates Creek is undefeated when Jackson posts two or more runs, but 2-9 otherwise. Another player making a difference was DJ Carter, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Tates Creek pushed their record up to 7-9 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.3 runs on average over those games. As for Bryan Station, their victory bumped their record up to 6-9.

Bryan Station beat Tates Creek 3-0 when the teams last played back in March of 2024. Do the Defenders have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Commodores turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
