Baseball Game Preview: Chatfield Chargers vs. Valor Christian Eagles

For the second straight game, Chatfield will face off against Valor Christian. The Chargers will look to defend their home field on Thursday against the Eagles at 4:00 p.m. Chatfield hasn't scored more than two runs for three games straight, a trend the squad is eager to reverse.

Last Tuesday, Chatfield didn't have quite enough to beat Valor Christian and fell 3-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Chargers have suffered against the Eagles since June 3, 2021.

For Valor Christian's part, Brigham Brown spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on one hit and racked up 12 Ks. Brown also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because the Eagles are 2-1 when he allows at most three earned runs, but 1-8 otherwise.

At the plate, Valor Christian's win was truly a team effort as three different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Travis Kenz, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI. Cody Dean was another, scoring a run and stealing two bases.

The victory snapped Valor Christian's losing streak at four games and leaves them with a 3-9 record. As for Chatfield, their loss dropped their record down to 7-7.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Chatfield has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.4 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Valor Christian struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
