Baseball Game Preview: Merritt Academy Mustangs vs. Peck Pirates

The Merritt Academy Mustangs will venture away from home to face off against the Peck Pirates at 5:45 p.m. on Monday. Merritt Academy has given up an average of 10.1 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Merritt Academy lost 16-1 to Algonac on Thursday. The Mustangs have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Merritt Academy got a good showing from Brody Westhouse, who pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off five hits. Westhouse has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Merritt Academy saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jackson Dupuis, who went 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI. Blaiden Berry also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.

Meanwhile, Peck earned a 10-5 win over Kingston on Thursday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Pirates.

Merritt Academy now has a losing record of 3-4. As for Peck, the victory got them back to even at 5-5.

Merritt Academy came up short against Peck in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, falling 8-5. Can the Mustangs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
