Softball Recap: Zuni Comes Up Short

Zuni came into this matchup off a tough 24-run loss last Monday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of the Wingate Bears by a score of 12-10 on Tuesday. If the Thunderbirds were looking for revenge after losing 17-1 to the Bears when the teams met back in April of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Caleigh Johnson was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with three runs and four RBI. Another player making a difference was LaNiya Kallestewa, who scored three runs while going 3-for-4.

Zuni has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last seven games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-9 record this season. As for Wingate, with the win, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 2-3.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: the Bears beat Zuni by a score of 9-7 later that day.
