Basketball Recap: Coventry Takes Down Ranked East Greenwich

On Monday, Coventry faced East Greenwich in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The Coventry Oakers managed a 54-48 win over the East Greenwich Avengers. The 54-point effort marked the Oakers' lowest-scoring matchup of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.

Leading Coventry to victory were Brayden Martin and Tyler Broady. Martin dropped a double-double on 19 points and ten assists, while Broady shot 4-for-6 from downtown and dropped a double-double on 20 points and ten boards. The game was Martin's fifth in a row with at least ten points.

Several Avengers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Rees Maccarone, who posted 18 points. Maccarone is crushing it when it comes to points: he's scored at least 15 every time he's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Dante Desmarais, who earned 13 points.

The victory (which was Coventry's fourth in a row) raised their record to 4-1. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.3 points per game. As for East Greenwich, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-4.

Coventry wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 67-49 win against North Smithfield on the 27th. As for East Greenwich, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 50-40 loss against Cranston East on the 27th.
