Preview: Laughlin Cougars vs. GV Christian Guardians
The Laughlin Cougars will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against the GV Christian Guardians at 4:30 p.m. Given that both teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this match.
Last Tuesday, Laughlin came up short against Indian Springs and fell 40-32. Laughlin has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Despite the defeat, Laughlin saw an underclassman step up: Amora Thomas scored 12 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Thomas has scored all season. Valeria Qunitero was another key contributor, scoring six points along with four steals.
Meanwhile, GV Christian also suffered a loss in their last game, but this one to Awaken Christian by a score of 39-32. GV Christian has not had much luck with Awaken Christian recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.
GV Christian's defeat came about despite a quality game from Samantha Charron, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 15 rebounds. That was a full 53.1% of GV Christian's points, marking the seventh time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ceaulei Lamb, who scored 11 points along with six rebounds.
Laughlin's defeat dropped their record down to 4-9. As for GV Christian, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-11 record this season.
Tuesday's matchup is shaping up to be a scrappy match: Laughlin have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 10.1 rebounds per game. It's a different story for GV Christian, though, as they've been averaging only 34.1 rebounds per game. Given Laughlin's sizeable advantage in that area, GV Christian will need to find a way to close that gap.
Laughlin might still be hurting after the 37-12 loss they got from GV Christian in their previous matchup back in December of 2022. Will Laughlin have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get analysis of the match and other basketball content.
